Browns sign kicker Cody Parkey

Pat Lovell / USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns have signed kicker Cody Parkey after Patrick Murray suffered a knee injury in practice Friday, the team announced Saturday.

Murray was listed as questionable to play heading into the weekend, but the Browns placed him on injured reserve to clear space for Parkey on the active roster.

Parkey, a Pro Bowler with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, was cut prior to the 2016 season after spending most of 2015 on the IR with a groin injury.

Injuries at a number of other positions could leave the Browns considerably shorthanded for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. Their top two quarterbacks are out, rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman is expected to miss multiple weeks with a broken hand, and cornerback Joe Haden suffered a groin injury during Thursday's practice.
