Rams' Fisher: 'Still a gap between' Goff and Keenum

As poorly as Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback Case Keenum has run his team's offense so far, he's still got a solid hold on his job.

Head coach Jeff Fisher says No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff is getting closer to winning the job he was drafted to do, but there's a still a noticeable difference between he and Keenum.

"He's close," Fisher told SiriusXM NFL radio about Goff on Friday. "There’s still a gap between he and Case right now. Everything that Case does, the familiarity with the offense, but he’s closing the gap and he’ll get in there, get his reps and make his plays, make the great throws that he’s capable of.

"We’ll see where it goes. From day one, I’ve never committed to when he’s going to play. But we’ve got confidence in Case right now and Jared’s improving."

The Rams are 1-1 with Keenum as the starter. He's thrown for 369 yards with two interceptions, and the team has yet to score a touchdown this season.

Fisher resents the idea that Goff should be starting because other teams are starting rookies, noting that the NFL is an unpredictable league with unpredictable circumstances.

"Had this chain of events not happened - had (Tony) Romo not gotten hurt and Teddy (Bridgewater) not gotten hurt and Sam (Bradford) stayed at Philly and then RGIII not gotten hurt - we wouldn’t have any rookie quarterbacks playing," said Fisher. "And that’s just how the league is playing.

"We have a healthy quarterback right now in our starter and so we’re just going to bring Jared along."
