Warrant issued for Josh Gordon's arrest in paternity case
An arrest warrant has been issued for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon after he failed to respond to subpoenas in a paternity case over several months, according to Adam Ferrise of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
"We are aware of the situation," the Browns organization said in a statement. "Josh and his attorney are working with the Cuyahoga County Courts to resolve this matter. We have no further comment at this time"
The warrant, stemming from a complaint first filed by Christina Lockhart on July 2, 2015, was reportedly authorized by Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Judge Alison Floyd on Aug. 30.
Lockhart is said to be seeking child support from Gordon, who she says is the father of her 1-year-old daughter.
The Browns wide receiver reportedly failed to respond to subpoenas sent to addresses both in Los Angeles and Cleveland. He apparently didn't provide a DNA sample when ordered to do so last summer, or attend a hearing scheduled for the end of August.
Gordon is serving a four-game suspension to start the 2016 season, a condition for his reinstatement after sitting out the entire year prior for another violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.
A league spokesman told Tom Whithers of The Associated Press that the paternity case won't affect his eligibility.
