Vikings' Adrian Peterson: Expected to have surgery Thursday

Peterson is expected to have surgery Thursday for a torn right lateral meniscus, Larry Fitzgerald Sr. reports.

Analysis:

Fitzgerald, the father of the Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald, is a long-time local Minnesota sports reporter. Peterson will likely miss two to four weeks after the surgery based on estimates of his most likely procedure, but we may not get specific details on the surgery or the extent of the damage. Peterson's return date may be uncertain for awhile as a result. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will likely split the workload at running back with Peterson out.
