New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been a surprise inactive for the first two games of the season.

The All-Pro is reportedly battling a nagging hamstring injury and was listed as a limited participant in Tuesday's practice.

"I'm just doing everything I can right now to be as healthy as I can be. I'm improving every single day," Gronkowski told reporters after practice, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. "Basically, day by day right now. ... Obviously you just don't wake up and you're 100 percent, but I'm satisfied with the improvements."

The Patriots are already missing suspended quarterback Tom Brady and may be without backup Jimmy Garoppolo in Thursday night's game against the Houston Texans. Gronkowski said his own game-day status will be the team's decision.

"It will definitely be a coach's decision, a trainer's decision, we'll all come together," he said.
