Cardinals' Tyrann Mathieu: Playing traditional free safety role

Mathieu has logged 74 percent of his defensive snaps at free safety this season, which is a drastic increase from eight percent in 2015, per Pro Football Focus.

Analysis:

Officially listed as the No. 1 free safety on the depth chart, Mathieu lined up primarily in the slot during his outstanding 2015 campaign that was cut short by a torn ACL on Dec. 20. As he gets his legs under him in the early going, he's clearly playing a more traditional role, which has so far equated to nine tackles but no other counting stats. Mathieu likely requires additional game action to feel comfortable in his old role, but for the time being, IDP owners may want to look elsewhere for assistance.
