New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett suffered a right thumb injury Thursday against the Houston Texans, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The team will monitor Brissett's injury, according to Rapoport, and has 10 days until its Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills to decide on his status.

The injury was initially reported by Mike Petraglia of WEEI, who suggested it may require surgery. Rapoport's source, however, stated the injury isn't thought to be serious.

Losing Brissett would leave the Patriots without a healthy quarterback on the roster, unless Jimmy Garoppolo makes a quick recovery from a sprained AC joint in time to start Week 4.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the team will reassess the situation Monday.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman served as the backup in Week 3, but didn't play a snap at quarterback.
