Rams' Jared Goff: Could be promoted to backup role

Goff could be promoted to the backup role for Sunday's game against Seattle, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

A healthy scratch Monday in San Francisco, the No. 1 overall draft pick may get a quick promotion, but it has nothing to do with Case Keenum's putrid Week 1 performance. The Rams merely wanted Goff to experience his first NFL game without the pressure of possibly playing, so the team went with Sean Mannion as the No. 2 quarterback. Head coach Jeff Fisher said Keenum's performance won't have any impact on the timeline for Goff's development, but Fisher could change his tune if Keenum doesn't at least display a modicum of competence in the next few weeks.
