Browns' Robert Griffin: Placed on injured reserve

Griffin (shoulder) has been placed on the Browns' injured reserve list due to a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

Analysis:

Griffin lands on IR after just one game with the Browns, as a hard hit taken while rushing toward the sideline Sunday left significant damage in his non-throwing shoulder. The oft-injured signal-caller does not need surgery and will be evaluated in about a month, but given his injury designation, Griffin now must miss a minimum of eight games and could be out even longer. With Griffin sidelined for the foreseeable future, Josh McCown figures to be promoted to Cleveland's starting quarterback position, with rookie Cody Kessler likely his backup.
