Jerry Jones: Romo 'expects to be back sooner rather than later'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says quarterback Tony Romo is planning to return from injury "sooner rather than later."

Romo, who's remained on the active roster with a compression fracture in his back, is expected to suit up around Week 9, but reports on his timetable have varied.

"Everything is fine, not fine, but is on go," Jones said Sunday, according to Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram. "(The X-rays showed) nothing that would in any way get in the area of a setback or would show concern."

The Cowboys lost their season opener Sunday, but rookie Dak Prescott was solid, throwing for 227 yards and no interceptions. Earlier, a report emerged stating Prescott could be in line to keep the starting job if he impresses enough.

Jones didn't speculate on Prescott, only saying Romo was on schedule for a return at some point this season.

"Romo is upbeat," Jones said. "He is just doing what he needs to be doing. He still has his support and will continue to have that support. It's about not getting overzealous sitting down.

"He expects to be back sooner rather than later."
