Panthers' Cam Newton: Not in concussion protocol

Newton has passed four concussion tests and thus is not subject to further concussion protocol following Thursday night's season opener against the Broncos, The Associated Press reports.

Analysis:

Newton endured a number of gruesome hits to the helmet during Thursday's loss to the Broncos, but apparently avoided suffering a concussion. With multiple tests confirming that notion, Newton should be able to participate normally in practice this coming week. While that's certainly reassuring news for Newton's fantasy owners, they'll also surely hope he doesn't again experience anything resembling the pounding he absorbed Thursday in the Panthers' upcoming games.
