Hue Jackson: Corey Coleman isn't overwhelmed despite error vs. Bears

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson isn't concerned with the play of rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman.

On Friday, Jackson was asked about the Browns' first-round selection lining up in the wrong spot in the red zone of Thursday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears and the head coach wouldn't chalk it up to rookie nerves.

"I don't think his head's spinning," Jackson said, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. "What it is, I think, sometimes when you get down in the scoring zone and you get down in different situations and all of a sudden the play is called and you don't hear it all or you turn away a little too soon or you thought it was this when it was really that, I think those things happen.

"I don't think Corey's spinning. I don't think there's any issue with Corey whatsoever. I think it's unfortunate that it happened at that time and we're having to talk about it today. But he's been outstanding as far as getting lined up and knowing exactly what to do."

Coleman missed the Browns' first two preseason games with a lingering hamstring injury and was unable to replicate the sterling performances he put on in training camp and OTAs when he did get on the field, with just one catch for 10 yards in two games.

The Baylor product will need to get up to speed quickly as he's slotted in as the Browns' No. 1 receiver in the absence of Josh Gordon, who will miss the first four weeks of the season due to suspension.

Luckily, Jackson seems certain Coleman's preseason performance won't bleed over into the preseason.

"Sometimes wires get crossed. We hate that it happens, but at the same time we all know that it does. So I'm not going to judge him on that one play. He'll be a tremendous football player for us, and he'll do some great things here."
