The NFL will announce Thursday it has selected the city of Philadelphia as host of the 2017 NFL Draft, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The league announced via press release that a press conference will be held Thursday at noon "to make a major announcement" at Philadelphia City Hall.

Chicago hosted the last two drafts, and New York City hosted every other draft since 1965.

The move to Philadelphia could be a one-year experiment. There are rumors the NFL is seeking to permanently relocate the draft to the Los Angeles Rams' facilities once construction is completed.

Adding intrigue to Philadelphia's status as the 2017 host (or perhaps subtracting from it) is the fact the Eagles don't currently own a first-round pick after trading up in this year's draft to select quarterback Carson Wentz.
