The New Orleans Saints acquired defensive end Chris McCain in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, the teams announced Monday.

Miami will receive a conditional seventh-round pick in exchange for McCain's services, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports.

The move adds some much-needed depth and competition to the defensive edge in New Orleans, as a season-ending injury to Hau'oli Kikaha had left an already thin pass-rush without any reliable options opposite Cameron Jordan.

For the Dolphins, a surplus of talent at defensive end allowed the club to pick up a draft pick by unloading a player who likely would have been on the roster bubble anyway. Cameron Wake and Mario Williams enter the 2016 season as starters, while Andre Branch, Jason Jones, and recently reinstated Dion Jordan can be expected to serve as the primary rotational contributors.

McCain, a former undrafted free agent, recorded two sacks across 18 games after first landing with the Dolphins in 2014.
