Cardinals' Justin Bethel: Returns to action Sunday

Bethel (foot) made his preseason debut Sunday, racking up two solo tackles in the Cardinals' 34-24 loss at Houston.

Analysis:

Removed from the PUP list on Aug. 16, Bethel's quest for game action came to fruition Sunday. With Patrick Peterson (rest) sidelined as a precautionary measure, Bethel got the start at cornerback opposite rookie Brandon Williams, who has been attempting to supplant the veteran from his expected perch. According to Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site, head coach Bruce Arians referred to Bethel's play as "rusty," which isn't a shock as he finishes the final phase of his recovery from offseason foot surgery. If Bethel wants to lock down a starting job for Week 1, he'll likely have to resemble his previous form in the team's final exhibition Thursday against the Broncos.
