Cardinals' Jenkins out for season with torn ACL

Bob Stanton / USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Mike Jenkins will miss the entire 2016 season after suffering a torn ACL in Saturday's preseason game, head coach Bruce Arians announced Monday.

Jenkins went to the ground and had to be carted off the field after missing a tackle attempt on Houston Texans wideout DeAndre Hopkins.

After landing with the Cardinals as a free agent, the 31-year-old entered training camp as one of several defensive backs competing for the starting role opposite Patrick Peterson.

Justin Bethel and third-round rookie Brandon Williams should now be favorites to round out the cornerback group in nickel sets, with Alan Ball, Cariel Brooks, Asa Jackson, and sixth-round pick Harlan Miller in the mix.
