Eagles' Matthews returns to practice

Ray Carlin / USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews was back on the practice field Monday, after sitting out the last three-plus weeks with an injury.

The team initially stated that Matthews had suffered a knee strain upon taking a low hit in practice, before an update later indicated that the issue was a bone bruise.

Matthews had always expected to be back in time for the regular season, but disclosed timelines for return can never be considered exact at this time of year.

Returning to practice in advance of the final preseason game would appear to indicate that he's indeed on track for the opener. Regardless of whether he suits up for the preseason finale, Matthews should regain his spot as Philadelphia's top target in Week 1.

The 24-year-old is coming off a fairly productive sophomore season, in which he tallied 85 receptions for 997 yards and eight touchdowns.
