Eagles' Wentz likely to miss preseason finale

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

It could be a long time before we see Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz back on the field for extended action.

The second overall pick is still at considerably less than 100 percent ahead of Thursday's preseason finale against the New York Jets, head coach Doug Pederson told reporters Monday.

If Wentz's cracked ribs aren't fully healed in time, Pederson said, the rookie won't play.

Wentz appears destined to begin the season as the third passer on the Eagles' quarterback depth chart behind Chase Daniel and starter Sam Bradford.

Barring the Eagles' season going off the rails, he may not see the field as a rookie outside of occasional mop-up duty.
