Report: Kruger, Davis among Browns' cuts

Ken Blaze / USA TODAY Sports

Linebacker Paul Kruger and quarterback Austin Davis were among the players released Monday as the Cleveland Browns trim their roster from 90 to 75 players, the club announced Monday.

Kruger signed a five-year, $40.5-million contract in 2013 and has since been a stalwart on the Browns' defense. Mary Cay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports his release is for performance reasons, and not indicative of a youth movement for the team.

Davis started two games for the Browns last season and appeared in another, completing 59.6 percent of his passes for 547 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. With Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, and rookie Cody Kessler ahead of him on the depth chart, he was a long shot to make the Browns' final roster.
