Cardinals' Darren Fells: Shows up in third preseason game

Fells caught two passes for 44 yards on two targets in Sunday's preseason game against the Texans.

Analysis:

A 12-game starter last season, Fells played each of the first 20 snaps in Friday's game, coinciding with Carson Palmer's appearance in the contest, according to Pro Football Focus. Fells and Jermaine Gresham are both listed as starters on the preseason depth chart, but with the Cardinals sure to rely on three-wide formations, the two tight ends will likely end up splitting time. 2014 second-round draft pick Tory Niklas could also be in the mix for snaps, as he reportedly received work with the first-team offense during training camp. The Cardinals mostly use two-TE formations near the goal line or when nursing a lead.
