Falcons sign Dashon Goldson
The Atlanta Falcons are turning to the free-agent market to bolster the defensive backfield following an injury to first-round rookie Keanu Neal.
Just one day after reports surfaced of a scheduled workout, the Falcons announced Sunday that the club has signed veteran safety Dashon Goldson.
The 10th-year veteran, who again hit the open market this offseason after a 2015 campaign spent with the Washington Redskins, adds some much needed experience on the back end.
Goldson will presumably be a candidate for a primary in-the-box safety role, and could slide into a depth role when Neal is able to make his return during the first month of the regular season.
After a productive six-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers in which he earned two Pro Bowl nods, Goldson landed a lucrative contract to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.
A drop-off in play would force the Bucs to part ways with him after just two years, but Goldson went on to start 15 games and post a career-high 110 tackles upon landing with the Redskins last season.
