Browns' Robert Griffin: Bailed out by Josh Gordon

Griffin completed eight of 14 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, adding one carry for four yards, in Friday's preseason game against Tampa Bay.

Analysis:

Although the stat line doesn't look too bad, Cleveland's first-team offense had an ugly evening, with Griffin taking five sacks on 19 dropbacks. The only real highlights were a pair of deep completions to Josh Gordon (suspension), with the first going for a 44-yard gain on the opening drive, and the second for a 43-yard touchdown shortly before halftime. The touchdown was thrown directly into coverage, allowing Gordon to come back on the ball and use his massive size advantage over Bucs CB Brent Grimes. While Gordon's strong effort was encouraging for the Cleveland offense, first-round selection Corey Coleman failed to impress, held without a catch on two targets. There isn't a shortage of talent, but the Browns' offense is clearly still a work in progress, with the process made more difficult by a slew of nagging injuries and Gordon's impending four-game suspension.
