Patriots' Julian Edelman: Kept quiet in preseason game

Edelman (foot) caught one pass for six yards on three targets in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers.

Analysis:

Making his first appearance of the preseason, Edelman played limited snaps with the first-team offense, taking a backseat to Chris Hogan. Edelman's uneventful night consisted of three short targets, with the last of those going for a six-yard gain from Tom Brady (suspension) midway through the second quarter. Edelman is unlikely to play in the final preseason game, as Friday's showing seemingly proved that he's healthy enough for Week 1. He should be ready for a much larger workload once the games count, though he won't get to work with Brady until Week 5.
