Report: Jimmy Garoppolo to start vs. Panthers; Brady expected to play

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will start against the Carolina Panthers in Friday's preseason game, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports.

Tom Brady is still expected to play.

Garoppolo will start the first four games of the season as Brady serves a suspension for his role in the "Deflategate" incident.

The third-year quarterback will look to build off his solid performance in the Pats' second preseason game, where he threw for 181 yards and a touchdown.

Garoppolo has been steady since being given the reigns to the offense, choosing to play it safe with check downs and high-percentage passes throughout the preseason.
