Marshawn Lynch practices with Cal ahead of season opener

Marshawn Lynch is retired from the NFL, but does he still have a bit of NCAA football left in him?

Well no, he doesn't - and it'd be a clear violation of amateur football rules - but the former Seattle Seahawks running back and Cal alum is in Sydney, Australia, supporting his alma mater, which opens its season Thursday against Hawaii from the land down under. And his support isn't just verbal.

"He came out to practice (Tuesday), watched practice, actually suited out and took a couple reps as the scout team running back," Cal head coach Sonny Dykes said, according to ESPN's Thomas Neumann.

The former star rusher is obviously way beyond his NCAA eligibility, but Dykes said he'd ensure Lynch received the rock "50 times" if he could lace 'em up once more for the Golden Bears.

Lynch rushed for more than 9,000 yards in the NFL and won a Super Bowl before calling it quits at the end of last season. He ran for 3,230 yards and 29 touchdowns in three seasons at Cal between 2004 and 2006.
