Baldwin issues challenge to Sherman, Bennett after practice fight

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin became the latest member of his team to engage in a fight during practice, squaring off against his best friend, Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman.

Sherman chased Baldwin down after flying past star safety Earl Thomas for a touchdown in practice, evidently incensed about the play.

Baldwin didn't care for his friend's action and candidly lit him up once again Tuesday.

"Obviously, tempers flare. Sherm's really upset that we keep destroying him in practice. He's upset that the receivers are getting the best out of him and the defensive backs this year. So he takes offense to that," Baldwin said to Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.

Baldwin and Sherman are among two of the more candid interviews in the league, with the former gaining the nickname "Angry Doug" for his oft-abrasive temperament.

Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett spoke about a code between teammates Monday, after being ejected from practice sessions throughout the preseason. Bennett spoke about a fine line between competitiveness and injuring teammates, a claim that Baldwin found laughable.

"I mean, yes, there is a 'code.' But Mike B. doesn’t always necessarily operate by that code, either," Baldwin said.

"It's hard to take him serious when he talks about other guys taking food off his kids’ plate - when he is driving around here with 10 different cars, you know?

Baldwin said he's an instigator in practice, but feels his leadership is necessary to a highly competitive group.

"I’ll admit it: I’m kind of an agitator in that, at times. But it's because we need it. We don't like it just to be peas and carrots all the time in practice. We want to bring out that competitive nature. We want to see the dog in guys so we can bring out the best in their abilities," Baldwin said.

Coming off the best season of his career where he led the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns, Baldwin will be counted upon to be a vocal leader on offense.
