New Orleans Saints linebacker Stephone Anthony returned to practice Monday after being carted off the field in his team's first preseason game with a leg injury.

The return was expected after head coach Sean Payton said the linebacker had avoided major injury and was expected back in time for the Saints' season opener.

Anthony's return is great news for the defense, which is already weak at the position after losing linebacker Hau'oli Kikaha to an ACL tear in June.

The 24-year-old led the Saints in tackles last season with 112 as a rookie.
