Broncos to start Siemian in 3rd preseason game vs. Rams

The Denver Broncos will start Trevor Siemian at quarterback in the team's third preseason game Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday.

It will be Siemian's second consecutive preseason start, after he completed 10-of-14 passes for 75 yards with one interception against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

Kubiak didn't set a specific date for naming his team's starting quarterback for the regular season, but said he'd like to decide before their fourth preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 1.

Siemian has been involved in a quarterback competition with veteran Mark Sanchez and rookie Paxton Lynch, with none of the three stepping far in front of the others.

Sanchez was assumed to be the favorite heading into camp, but several key turnovers in preseason action and practice have hurt his chances. Lynch has shown promise, leading the group in completions, touchdowns, and quarterback rating through the preseason in his rookie campaign, but his lack of experience is a concern.

Siemian, a 2015 seventh-round pick, has only one regular-season NFL snap under his belt and has yet to throw a touchdown pass this preseason.
