Raiders' Cory James: Impressing with Raiders

James, a versatile linebacker out of Colorado State, took some first-team reps over projected starter Ben Heeney during Saturday's practice, Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area reports.

Analysis:

James has been one of the leaders on defense for the Raiders throughout the first two preseason games. In his most recent effort, he racked up four tackles, including one for loss, during the team's loss to the Packers last Thursday. Heeney isn't currently in danger of losing his starting spot at middle linebacker, but James could have a bigger role than originally expected right out of the gate when Week 1 rolls around.
