49ers' DeAndrew White: Fills in at slot position Saturday

White got the start in the slot against the Broncos on Saturday, finishing with two catches for 30 yards.

Analysis:

Projected starter Bruce Ellington (ankle) did not suit up Saturday, opening the door for White to get snaps with the first-team offense. He did not disappoint, pulling in the only two targets he saw. It was interesting that the 49ers opted to go with the unproven White over veteran Jerome Simpson, but it may have been a case of the former having a skill set better suited for the slot. Ellington's injury isn't considered serious, so White will resume his backup/special teams role once he returns.
