The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free-agent linebacker Stephen Tulloch, a source informed Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The deal is a one-year pact worth up to $3 million with $1.75 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports.

The middle linebacker was cut by the Detroit Lions in July after he failed a physical. He was also deemed expendable as the team did not see him as a fit moving forward.

The move was a necessary measure after rookie linebacker Don Cherry tore his ACL Thursday. Tulloch will bring veteran leadership to a spot on the Eagles' defense that was slated to be occupied by sophomore Jordan Hicks and rookie Joe Walker. He'll also be reunited with his former head coach, Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

The 10-year pro played a full 16-game season last year and led the team in tackles with 107.
