49ers' Mike Davis: Takes step back with two fumbles Saturday

Davis carried the ball five times for 26 yards Saturday, but he lost two fumbles in a preseason win over Denver.

Analysis:

Davis had the best day of any San Francisco running back last week and appeared to put himself in the conversation for possible backup duties to Carlos Hyde. He took a big step backwards Saturday, losing two fumbles despite only touching the ball seven times. Davis will continue to compete for the No. 3 running back role with DuJuan Harris in the final two games of the preseason. With Chip Kelly expected to feature a run-heavy attack, there is a strong possibility both backs make the 53-man roster.
