Texans' J.J. Watt: Could miss regular-season games

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said he's not sure if Watt (back) will be ready for the first two games of the regular season, ESPN's Ed Werder reports.

Analysis:

Watt had surgery to repair a herniated disc in late July, with his recovery timetable estimated at 8-to-10 weeks. The possibility of missed time at the beginning of the season isn't a new development, but it's still not a great sign that Watt's head coach is openly discussing it, as players and coaches are usually either silent or overly optimistic when asked about injury timetables. In any case, Watt figures to miss all of the preseason, and he remains questionable for the first few weeks of the regular season.
