Lions' Jake Rudock: Battling for No. 2 QB role?

Rudock appears to be closing the gap on Detroit's No. 2 QB Dan Orlovsky, MLive.com reports.

Analysis:

Rudock completed 8-of-11 passes Thursday, the same as starting QB Matthew Stafford, and while he did throw an interception, it wasn't nearly as painful to watch as Orlovsky's pick-six (his second in two preseason games). Furthermore, Rudock engineered Detroit's one and only touchdown drive, albeit against the Bengals' deep reserves. His push for a roster spot may have more to do with the rookie-level mistakes Orlovsky has been making as an 11-year veteran, but if Rudock continues to make strides in his development, Detroit may have a tough decision to make at backup quarterback in advance of the regular season.
