Report: Steelers unaware of Green's headaches before his signing

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Ladarius Green is still yet to make his training camp debut as he deals with what recent reports have described as recurring headaches.

When the Steelers signed Green to a four-year deal in free agency, the club was well-aware of the necessary recovery time for an ankle surgery he underwent in January. The former San Diego Chargers tight end did not, however, inform Pittsburgh of his headaches, Ed Bouchette of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The widely held assumption when Green started training camp on the physically unable to perform list was that he was still working his way back from the procedure that inserted two metal plates into his ankle.

Green's agent recently told NFL.com that the ankle isn't an issue, though, and Bouchette's reports indicates that the tight end is currently in the concussion protocol.

The 26-year-old suffered three concussions in one calendar year toward the end of his four-season stint with the Chargers, including two in as many weeks early in the 2015 season.

A report from Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio suggested Thursday that retirement could be an option for Green if the headaches don't subside, meanwhile relaying speculation the Steelers could consider releasing him.
