Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant made headlines last year when he introduced the world to his new pet monkey, Dallas Bryant.

Bryant says he's now had to give the monkey away to a friend, though he'll still get to see him on occasion.

"He was one of us, the monkey was one of us," Bryant told KTCK-AM 1310 The Ticket, according to Sports Day. "He got pure-A1 treatment."

It's unclear why Bryant parted ways with his little friend, but it doesn't appear the decision had anything to do with a November request from PETA for animal control to investigate the legality of the possession.

Bryant is set for his seventh NFL season, looking to rebound from a 2015 campaign in which injuries limited him to just nine games.
