Report: Steelers' Green dealing with recurring headaches

An ankle injury forced Ladarius Green to start his first Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on the physically unable to perform list, but it appears to be a separate issue that still has him on the sidelines nearly two weeks later.

The newly signed tight end's continued absence has nothing to do with his surgically repaired ankle, but rather the fact he's been dealing with recurring headaches, according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network.

Green landed with the Steelers this offseason after four years with the San Diego Chargers. He suffered two concussions in as many weeks early last season, for a total of three over the calendar year.

Retirement is an option for Green if the headaches don't subside, reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, per a source, who also relayed speculation of the Steelers considering a release.

Green's status has been a mystery throughout camp, and it remains unclear whether he's expected to return to practice any time soon.

The 26-year-old entered camp as one of several pass-catchers with an opportunity for a substantial role alongside Antonio Brown while Martavis Bryant serves his season-long suspension.

Jesse James, a 2015 fifth-round pick, will continue to see work as the top tight end until Green is cleared to return.
