New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was forced to the sidelines at Tuesday's training-camp practice after suffering an apparent injury.

Beat writers in attendance reported that Edelman left the field in disgust, throwing his helmet before sitting on the back of a cart and having his lower left leg evaluated by the training staff.

Edelman later walked to the locker room under his own power, but his status will now be a concern for the Patriots until further details on the ailment become available.

The 30-year-old missed seven games to close out the 2015 regular season after undergoing surgery on his left foot. He was able to return for the playoffs, but required another procedure in the offseason that kept him out of camp until Sunday.

Any extended absence for the dynamic receiver would of course be a considerable blow to New England's offense heading into the fall.

The typically explosive passing attack is already set to take the field without Tom Brady for the first four games of the year, so surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo with a strong group of weapons is imperative.
