Brock Osweiler has responded to Denver Broncos general manager John Elway's comments on why the quarterback opted to jump ship and join the Houston Texans in free agency.

Elway said Osweiler was 'bent out of shape' by the team's decision to bench him in favor of Peyton Manning during their regular season finale, and the rift created by the choice ultimately led to his decision to leave the Super Bowl champions.

Osweiler was asked to respond to Elway's comments Monday, and while the young passer was diplomatic in his answer, he argued that he simply reacted in the same manner that any other player would.

"The only thing I would say is, what kind of competitor wouldn't want to play in that situation?" Osweiler said, according to The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson. "Outside of that, I think I've answered all of those questions. We're now in August, we just had a great training camp practice and I'm excited to play the 49ers coming up."

The four-year pro was handed a four-year, $72-million contract by Houston, leaving Denver scrambling to formulate a Plan B, which ended up involving the signing of veteran Mark Sanchez and drafting Paxton Lynch in the first round of this year's draft.

Osweiler's decision to leave a Super-Bowl ready roster was met with shock, but based on Elway's comments, his exit was inevitable the moment Manning replaced him in Week 17 last season.
