Dolphins' Jay Ajayi: Listed atop RB depth chart for now

Ajayi is listed ahead of newcomer Arian Foster on the Dolphins' initial posted depth chart.

Analysis:

The fact that Ajayi is currently listed ahead of Foster is noteworthy, as Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald relayed, since Foster was reportedly impressive while taking first-team reps during a span last week in which Ajayi dealt with a knee issue. As coach Adam Gase noted, the Dolphins' initial depth chart is considered a "starting point." With that in mind, it wouldn't surprise us to see Foster have a chance to either overtake Ajayi outright as the preseason rolls along or, at the very least, secure a key role in what could emerge as some form of time-share arrangement in the Miami backfield. In any case, whereas Ajayi appeared to have a clear path to a featured role at this time last month, the addition of Foster -- and the veteran's strong showing thus far -- has bumped Ajayi's fantasy stock down a few pegs. Of course, any inclination to completely write Ajayi off should be moderated by the reality that Foster continues to carry a degree of injury risk, based on his track record of ailments over the past few NFL seasons.
