Cowboys' Tony Romo: Not expected to play preseason opener

Romo (collarbone) will likely sit out Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams in Los Angeles, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

Romo has been following his practice schedule from recent campaigns, with occasional rest days interspersed throughout each week in order to preserve his health. Even so, he participated in full pads for the third day in a row Sunday, completing 10 of 14 passes during team drills. As he continues to ramp up his activity level, he'll surely make an appearance during exhibition season, namely the third preseason game in which starters receive a significant snap count. On Saturday, though, the Cowboys will hand the keys to the offense to rookie Dak Prescott and second-year pro Jameill Showers due to the broken ankle sustained by Kellen Moore last week.
