Ravens' Joe Flacco: Preseason opener status still unknown

Flacco's (knee) status for Thursday's preseason opener was a subject coach John Harbaugh declined to comment on Monday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Flacco has by all accounts enjoyed a strong training camp thus far, showing no ill-effects from his ACL and MCL tears last November, so potentially playing in Thursday's preseason opener wouldn't really be asking anything extra. Still, coach Harbaugh may prefer to take a cautious approach anyway and sit Flacco for the first relatively meaningless exhibition contest. Even if Flacco ultimately plays, he'll likely only take the field for a series or two, so backup Ryan Mallett should be prepared for an extended run in any case.
