Report: NFL still plans to interview Matthews, Peppers, Harrison about PED accusations

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY Sports

The NFL will interview Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, and James Harrison over performance-enhancing drug accusations as expected, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Associated Press obtained a letter in June from NFL executive Adolpho Birch, stating that the league will interview each player when training camps commenced. All three players have been in their respective training camps since the end of July.

Al-Jazeera America implicated the aforementioned trio in a report in December 2015, where it also alleged Peyton Manning received human growth hormone at his house, in packages under his wife's name. The NFL cleared Manning of any wrongdoing or PED use in July.

The NFLPA released the following statement in June:

The NFLPA represents its players in conjunction with any investigation by their employer. On behalf of its players, the NFLPA made numerous inquiries of the NFL through Adolpho Birch asking whether the basis of the NFL's investigation of players is entirely predicated upon recanted statements to a person used by Al Jazeera to make secret recordings. The NFL has not provided any other evidence, nor has it informed the NFLPA or players that any such evidence exists.
