The Philadelphia Eagles are in "heavy negotiations" with free-agent linebacker Stephen Tulloch, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tulloch was cut by the Detroit Lions in July after five productive seasons.

His release was delayed until late in the offseason because the Lions preferred to trade him. When no suitors could be found, his release was reportedly postponed even further until he was able to pass a physical after undergoing ankle surgery.

The 31-year-old will likely compete for one of the starting linebacker roles, but could be well-placed as a rotational veteran.

Tulloch showed little signs of decline in 2015, racking up 107 total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.
