Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will miss the team's first preseason game, he confirmed to ESPN's Ben Goessling.

Peterson suffered a hamstring injury during the offseason but is expected to be fine for the regular-season opener.

The reigning rushing champion said that he may play in the team's third preseason game against the San Diego Chargers.

Peterson saw increased repetitions in Wednesday's practice session despite the ailment.

"It felt good to get back out there," Peterson said via Matt Vensel of the Star Tribune. "Back in action now, just really being smart. There was no reason to get out there and try to basically tear something or make it worse."

Earlier in the offseason, Peterson said he's bored by training camp, which may have factored into the team's decision to keep him out of the team's preseason opener.
