The No. 1 pick in the NFL draft hopes to be the Day 1 starter for the Los Angeles Rams.

When Jared Goff spoke with NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano and Kurt Warner after practice Wednesday, he was asked how badly he wants to be the team's starting quarterback to open the 2016 season.

"As a competitor, everyone wants to play," Goff said.

"I've never not started," he added when pressed further. "Like I said, the competitor in me wants to play, but it's not my job to make that decision. That's what the coaches are paid for."

There were early reports that Goff would have to develop quickly to ensure Case Keenum isn't the one under center when the team visits the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1's late Monday nighter.

"It's something I'm striving for, it's something I really want to work for," Goff said. "I want to be as comfortable as I can at that point and continuing to improve every day. I'm not really thinking about Week 1 right now. I'm thinking about tomorrow, practice four, and trying to be as good as I can tomorrow. Because I feel like I've made a really good jump and I don't want to slow down."

The 21-year-old said he stuck his nose in the team's playbook after OTAs and is focusing on his progression.

"I eventually got to the point where I felt pretty comfortable and then I came out here and felt immensely more comfortable with calling the plays and everything that goes with it," he said.

"It's been a long process up to this point but I felt like I've made some good improvements."
