The Houston Texans are pleased DeAndre Hopkins opted to end his holdout after just one day, and owner Bob McNair said the club will reward the star receiver with a new deal in due time.

"I'm happy that he's back," McNair said, according John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. "I think it's in his best interest for him to be here.

"We'll deal with his contract at the proper time. We take care of our players and we'll take care of him."

Hopkins missed the first session of training camp, but returned to the Texans on Monday.

The former first-round pick has two years remaining on his rookie deal, and was thought to be holding out in order to force negotiations to move forward, although he denies he was attempting to send a message.

The Texans reportedly made it clear there would be no talks if he stayed away, leading to the receiver's decision to return.

Hopkins led the team with 111 catches, 1,521 yards, and 11 touchdowns a year ago. He did so while playing with a rotating cast of underwhelming veterans at quarterback, firmly establishing himself as one the league's premier pass-catchers.

Though no numbers have been reported, it's likely Hopkins will command an annual salary in the $14-million range, putting him alongside the likes of Julio Jones, Dez Bryant, and Demaryius Thomas.

The Texans set a precedent with J.J. Watt, another of the club's former first-round pick's, giving him a big-money extension with two years remaining on his rookie deal.
