Buccaneers' Brent Grimes: Impressed with new teammates, coaches

Grimes, who hauled in his second interception of training camp in Saturday's practice, is considerably impressed with his new teammates and coaches, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "It's a great team. Bunch of great guys, great coaches. It's a very positive environment," Grimes said. "This is a talented team. I like the coaching staff, like how they coach the players. I like the system we're playing in."

Analysis:

The veteran ball-hawk was one of the Bucs' major offseason acquisitions, and is already flashing the skills that endeared him to the team that allowed the highest completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks last season. Grimes picked off Jameis Winston for the second time in as many days in Saturday's practice off a tipped ball by second-year receiver Kenny Bell and has largely held his own against the flurry of double moves the offense has used against him, a tactic that Grimes sees as a positive. "They're running a lot of double moves," Grimes said after Friday's workout. "It's good. It keeps you honest, gets your footwork right. That's what training camp and practice is for -- you have to go out there and try things and see. If you just play it safe in training camp, that's not good." The aggressive approach is one of many aspects of his new team that the Pro Bowl cornerback appreciates, with another being a group of experienced coaches that includes his former Falcons and current Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith. "When you bring a coach like Coach Smith in, and (secondary) Coach (Jon) Hoke and (defensive backs coach Brett) Maxie, you've got a bunch of good guys and you have players who can play the game," Grimes said. "I know Coach Smith and he's a great coach and he's going to have everybody where they're supposed to be. He's going to coach you hard and it's going to pay off in the long run."
