The San Francisco 49ers have signed 2016 first-round pick guard Joshua Garnett to a four-year rookie contract, the team announced Friday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier that the team was expected to sign Garnett Friday night, leaving San Diego Chargers' third overall pick Joey Bosa as the only unsigned player from the first round of the draft.

The 22-year-old Stanford product was a surprise first-round pick, taken 28th overall by the 49ers. He was the team's second choice in the opening round after taking defensive end DeForest Buckner seventh overall.

Garnett, who won the Outland Trophy as college football's top interior offensive lineman in 2015, will compete to be the 49ers' starting right guard in his first training camp this summer.
