The Detroit Lions have signed cornerback Darius Slay to a four-year contract, the team announced Friday.

Slay's new deal, which keeps him under contract through the 2020 season, is worth a total of $50.2 million that includes $23 million fully guaranteed at signing, reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

While he hasn't exactly become a household name through his first three seasons, it was only a matter of time before Slay's consistent production was rewarded with a contract that puts him among the NFL's top 10 highest-paid defensive backs.

The former second-round pick has started all 32 games since stepping into a full-time role for the first time in 2014, racking up four interceptions, 30 passes defensed, and 120 tackles.
